all about me
My name is Phillip Kearney and I am based in Launceston, Tasmania.
I have been building instruments since 1996. After studying basic guitar building with Phill Carson Crickmore in Melbourne, I built acoustic guitars for a few years, many of which were 000 and 1-18 sizes. About 6 years ago I became interested in the Irish bouzouki and, with a lot of help and encouragement from Graham McDonald in Canberra, started building guitar-bodied arch topped instruments.
The tenor banjo building has come lately as I find this a fasinating instrument with a lot to offer. I also build tenor guitars which are a great little instrument to play in several tunings.
To sum up, I build:
- Irish bouzoukis long scale 26 " guitar body and traditional shape full arch top.
- Tenor Banjos 17 and 19 fret scale solid timber resonator and traditional brass tone ring, resonator back.
- Tenor guitars 23" scale solid spruce and Tasmanian black wood or rosewood body.
